God planned a marvelous solution to humanity’s fall in Eden. He could have destroyed evil immediately, but it would have meant destroying humanity, now tainted by sin. Instead, He launched a six-phase rescue plan through Jesus.
God invaded the darkness by sending his son Jesus to earth in the form of a baby. (Isaiah 7:14)
- God, the Son, became a human being. (Matthew 1:23)
- In His sinless, sacrificial life, this God-man, Jesus Christ, became a perfect savior. (2 Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 4:14-15)
Jesus bore on Himself the full weight of sin’s consequences, redeeming humanity from Satan’s dominion. (1 John 3:8b)
- Sin – all that is evil. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
- The Curse – all that is wrong. (Galatians 3:13)
- Terror – all that is enslaving. (Hebrews 2:14-15)
- Death – all that is terminal. (2 Corinthians 5:15)
- broke the power of evil. (1 Peter 3:18, Colossians 2:15)
- won this victory for all who receive Him. (John 11:25-26, 1 Corinthians 15:57, Romans 6:4-5, Colossians 1:27)
Jesus ascended to heaven, seated at the right hand of our Almighty Father, where He reigns with full authority and intercedes on our behalf.
- He holds all authority over the universe, exalted above every name. (Matthew 28:18, Philippians 2:9-10)
- He intercedes for us with love, presenting our prayers to the Father according to His perfect will. (John 17:20-21, Hebrews 4:15, Hebrews 7:25, Romans 8:34)
- We receive His provisions by praying in accordance with His will. (Mark 11:24, John 14:13-14)
Jesus loves His people. He has promised us His:
- Holy Spirit. (Galatians 4:6)
- Global authority. (John 14:13)
- Universal resources. (John 15:16)
- Presence. (Matthew 28:20, James 4:8)
Christ is effecting His victory to you from heaven…
- through His own intercession. (Romans 8:34, Hebrews 7:25)
- through the Holy Spirit who inspires Christians to pray. (Romans 8:26-27)
When we intercede, we connect the strongholds of Satan with the conquest of Christ until they surrender to Him.
- Through prayer, believers worldwide become channels for Jesus’ victory, breaking Satan’s strongholds in their lives and communities.
- Christ’s resurrection and ascension empower believers to overcome evil through the Holy Spirit’s guidance in prayer.
- Through Jesus’ intercession, our prayers align with God’s will, transforming our lives and communities.
-
Reflect individually on a stronghold in your life, then write a prayer asking Jesus to intercede according to His will, and share it with a partner for mutual encouragement. -
In pairs, share a personal challenge and how Jesus’ victory can address it. Pray for each other’s needs. -
In small groups, identify a global or local evil (e.g., injustice, addiction), and pray strategically for Christ’s victory to prevail, trusting the Holy Spirit’s guidance.
