God Does! Obey Him

Loving obedience to God places us in a receptive posture for His answers; disobedience inhibits His answering process.

Biblical Foundation

1 John 3:22 Verse Art

“You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.” — James 4:3

Introduction

Our faith grows when we realize that God uses our prayers as channels for His action. God answers prayers as we align with His will. Our loving obedience to God is a vital part of His answering process. Unresolved issues like broken relationships, sin, and unbelief can hinder both our prayers and God’s answers.

The Bible warns us not to

Grieve the Spirit (Ephesians 4:30)

“And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.”

Quench the Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19)

“Quench not the Spirit.”

Doubt God (Matthew 13:58)

“And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.”

Steps to Obedience

  1. Confess your sins (1 John 1:9)
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
  2. Seek forgiveness from those you’ve wronged (Matthew 5:23–24)
“Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.”
  3. Forgive those who have hurt you (Matthew 18:15)
“Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.”
  4. Gently address ongoing conflicts with love (Galatians 6:1)
“Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.”
  5. Obey what He shows you (1 John 3:22)

Confession & Obedience in Daniel

“And now, O Lord our God, who have brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and have made a name for Yourself, as it is this day — we have sinned, we have been wicked.” — Daniel 9:15

“Now while I was speaking and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the Lord my God in behalf of the holy mountain of my God.” — Daniel 9:20

God used the prayers and obedience of one man to transform a nation. The circle of prayer remains unbroken as we walk in humble surrender.

Key Insight

“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,” — Ephesians 3:20

Action Points

  • Ask the Lord if any unconfessed sin is blocking fellowship.
  • Remember: yielding your life to Christ as Lord and Savior is a one-time act; sin affects relationship, not salvation.
  • Meditate on the Scriptures above (Steps to Obedience) and do the next right thing today.

Prayer Time — Obey Him

  • Examine your heart for anything blocking your prayers (Hebrews 10:19–23).
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal anything you need to confess; receive Jesus’ cleansing.
  • Act on God’s guidance to restore relationships or priorities.

“Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
by a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)”
Hebrews 10:19–23

“Holy Spirit, show me how to obey You. Clear my heart for prayer. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
